Life is Changing...Should You?

Now more than ever your health matters. Enroll in the right heath plan & cover your family.

Ready to shift to a new health plan? We’ve got you covered.

Start preparing for open enrollment 2021 today. You can enroll between November 1 through December 15, 2020 in Michigan.

As in the past years since the ACA, you have two (2) enrollment Open Enrollment options and AJM Associates can assist you with both:

  1. Direct with the carrier - also called Off-Marketplace

  2. Through www.healthcare.gov - On-Marketplace

What is ON-MARKETPLACE?

Health insurance plans that are offered through the Marketplace – a massive online store for health insurance plans that is run by the federal government or state. These plans are required to provide essential health benefits and follow more guidelines as set by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). In Michigan you purchase these plans from www.healthcare.gov.

With these plans, you may be eligible to receive a government subsidy depending on your household size and income, meaning that your monthly health insurance costs (a.k.a. your premium) might be lower.

What is OFF-MARKETPLACE?

Health insurance plans that are offered privately by each health insurance company. These plans also offer most if not all the essential health benefits as their on-marketplace counterparts and are usually are a mirror of their on-marketplace plans. The names of the plans are often exactly the same as well.

The difference? You won't buy these plans from Healthcare.gov or your state exchange platform. You also won't receive a government subsidy or discounts for these plans.

How to Decide?

Choose ON IF....

  • you qualify for a government subsidy,

  • would like assistance in paying for healthcare,

  • are willing to accept a narrow in-network list of doctors,

  • and you make too much $$$ to qualify for Medicaid, but paying the full cost of a private health insurance plan is financially difficult for you.

Choose OFF IF.......

  • you make too much money to qualify for a government subsidy and

  • your favorite doctor doesn't accept any health insurance plans that are on-exchange and you see this doctor enough that it makes sense to have visits covered rather than pay out of pocket to see them.

Insider tip: If you purchase an on-marketplace plan (a.k.a. Government plan) without receiving a subsidy, you're essentially buying an off-marketplace plan (a.k.a. private plan) with an "on-marketplace" label. Then, you're not receiving the benefits of a government plan at all but going through all the hassle of answering a lot of questions you don't need to.

Here’s Why You Should Use a Health Insurance Agent

  1. You can use an agent’s services for free. Agents make money through commissions that are already included the cost of every health insurance plan, no matter where you buy it or whether an agent was involved. A plan never costs more just because you choose to buy with an agent. When you understand the benefits of shopping through a licensed agent – and the fact that you don’t have to pay more for using an agent – it’s easy to see why shopping with an agent is the smart way to go.

  2. Agents make it easy to understand your options. Unless you have a real passion for fine print and health insurance terminology, it’s not always easy to understand what you’re seeing when comparing health insurance options. Licensed health insurance agents live and breathe this stuff every day, and they’re specially trained to help you understand how plans differ from one another and how your coverage will actually work in the real world.

  3. Agents are your advocates even after you enroll. Your agent is there for you even after you buy a new health insurance plan. Your agent can help you re-shop each year during the Individual open enrollment period, or whenever big life changes happen and you need to update your coverage. What’s more, your agent can serve as your advocate with the insurance company when you have questions about benefits or about how a medical claim was processed.

Why shop anywhere else? Subsidies. Service. Selection. AJM Associates makes Individual Health Care easy!
